BERICHT ZUR IDM 2022 IN SCHWERIN
Bei der diesjährigen Internationalen Deutschen Meisterschaft der Contenderklasse kam dem Begriff International am Ende besondere Bedeutung zu und machte klar, die ausländische Konkurrenz schläft nicht. Insgesamt 54 Boote aus 2 Nationen fanden den Weg an den schönen Schweriner See, genauer der Seglervereinigung Schwerin. Bereits 2017 ließ sich hier eine hervorragende Meisterschaft austragen, sodass die Messlatte zur Verbesserung in diesem Jahr besonders hoch lag. So viel sei vorweggesagt, die Erwartungen der Segler wurden nicht enttäuscht.

Einsteiger-Guide
In unermüdlicher Kleinarbeit hat Dirk Müller in den vergangenen Jahren viel Wissen über das Contender-Segeln zu Wort gebracht, um Einsteigern in unserer wunderbaren Klasse das Leben etwas leichter zu machen. Im Ergebnis ist ein gut 50 Seiten starkes PDF mit detailliertem Inhaltsverzeichnis entstanden, das Leuten, die mit dem Contender-Segeln anfangen, unfassbar helfen wird, und auch für Fortgeschrittene noch das ein oder andere "Goldkörnchen" bescheren dürfte.

Was muss ich tun, wenn ich mal einen Contender ausprobieren möchte? Wo findet eigentlich nächstes Jahr die IDM statt? Wer ist der richtige Kontakt, wenn ich in die Klassenvereinigung eintreten möchte? Wie funktioniert das mit der Startgelderstattung für Jugendliche? Ganz egal, was es ist – dumme Fragen gibt’s nicht! Jugendförderung
Junioren-Mitglieder der Klassenvereinigung (unter 25 Jahren) bekommen 50 Prozent der gezahlten Startgelder für Ranglistenregatten im Contender von der Klassenvereinigung zurück, wenn Ihr Eure Quittungen an den Kassenwart sendet.
Bei Europameisterschaften und Weltmeisterschaften können alle Jugendlichen unter 21 Jahren sogar startgeldfrei starten. Bei diesen Regatten übernimmt die International Contender Association die anderen 50 Prozent.
So funktioniert es im Einzelnen:
Die Jugendförderung der GCA (German Contender Association e.V.) besteht aus der Erstattung des Startgeldes von Ranglisten- und Meisterschaftsregatten der Contender. (Solange unser Fördertopf voll ist) Ebenso übernimmt die GCA für ihre Mitglieder die Bearbeitung der Jugendförderung der ICA (International Contender Association). Hierbei gelten die folgenden Regeln bzw. müssen folgende Voraussetzungen erfüllt sein, damit die Startgelder erstattet werden können:
- Die Juniorenförderung der GCA beträgt 50% des Startgeldes. Sie ist beschränkt auf Ranglistenregatten der GCA sowie Meisterschaften der Contender, insbesondere WM (Weltmeisterschaft), EM (Europameisterschaft) und ausländische Meisterschaften von Contender-Klassenvereinigungen, welche sich unter dem Dachverband der ICA befinden.
- Die Jugendförderung (unter 21 Jahren) der ICA beträgt 50% des Startgeldes von internationalen Meisterschaften der Contender wie WM und EM.
Somit kann bei WM/EM durch GCA und ICA insgesamt 100% des Startgeldes erstattet werden. - Die Jugendförderung kann nur für Mitglieder der GCA durchgeführt werden. Es gilt das Eintrittsdatum als Förderungsbeginn.
- Das bedeutet, dass keine Regatten gefördert werden, welche vor dem Zeitpunkt des Eintritts begonnen haben.
- Tritt das Mitglied aus, erhält es keine Jugendförderung mehr.
- Die Juiorenförderung endet mit der Vollendung des 25. Lebensjahres. Für die Regatten gilt als Termin der 1. Wettfahrttag laut Ausschreibung.
- Das bedeutet z.B., wenn jemand am 1. Wettfahrttag seinen 25. Geburtstag hat, dann erhält diese Person für diese Regatta keine Jugendförderung.
- Hierbei ist es nicht notwendig, dass tatsächlich eine Wettfahrt am 1. Wettfahrttag vom Veranstalter durchgeführt wird.
- Die GCA erstattet im Rahmen der Juniorenförderung Startgelder, übernimmt aber selber nicht die Zahlung von Startgeldern.
- Die GCA benötigt die Original-Belege bzw. Quittungen von gezahlten Startgeldern.
- Das bedeutet, jede Person sorgt selber dafür, dass sie vom Veranstalter eine Quittung erhält.
- Die Original-Belege dienen ebenfalls als Rechtfertigung gegenüber der ICA.
- Die GCA erstattet kein Startgeld (auch nicht anteilig), wenn bereits ein anderer Verein das (anteilige) Startgeld erstattet hat.
- Das bedeutet, wenn z.B. der Verein des Jugendlichen ebenfalls Startgelder erstattet, so muss sich die Person entscheiden, welche Förderung er beanspruchen möchte.
- Damit niemand mehrfach und sogar über 100% Startgelderstattung erhält, muss die GCA die Original-Belege verlangen.
- Die Anträge zur Jugendförderung müssen schriftlich beim Kassenwart der GCA mit den entsprechenden Belegen eingereicht werden bis zum 28. Februar des Folgejahres.
- Die Förderung erfolgt solange, bis der Fördertopf der GCA des jeweiligen Jahres erschöft ist.
- Das bedeutet, dass jede Regatta einzeln eingereicht werden kann oder mehrere bis alle Regatten eines Jahres gesammelt werden können.
- Das bedeutet, wenn eine Regatta aus dem Jahr 2023 erst am 1. März 2024 beim Kassenwart eingereicht wird, ist die Frist bereits abgelaufen.

Euro 2021
After Max' win in Quiberon and the cancellation of the 2020 event, the German Contender Association is excited to host the 50th Contender Worlds in 2021. The Championship is scheduled to take place in Warnemünde from 4 to 10 July 2021 with a Pre-Worlds event from 2 to 3 July 2021. (The Pre-Worlds will not be the German Nationals 2021.)

+++Update on Open German Nationals and World Championships+++
Following the update by Søren Dulong Andreasen on the situation of our Danish friends, a few pieces of information from Germany, notably on the major events German nationals and World Championships.
The Open German Nationals on Lake Constance will not be held in May but from 17 to 19 September. We have taken the decision to postpone for obvious reasons. As we hope for a strong participation by our Italian, Swiss and Austrian friends, we also believe that the new autumn date bears better chances for international travel and a panalpine gettogether.
The World Championship in Warnemünde is still planned for the first week of July. The draft NoR draft has been reviewed by us and should be published soon. Warnemünde is going to follow the hygiene protocol successfully tested by Kiel Week last year, which means a heavy focus on the water side of things.
There is three main questions associated to the Worlds at the moment: 1) Can an international sports event take place in Warnemünde?, 2) can you guys travel at all or without having to accept unacceptable burden?, 3) what will it be called?
To be quite honest with you, I can't respond to any of these three at the moment. While question 3) depends on 1) and 2) and will eventually have to be decided by ICA, I can tell you that what keeps us optimistic is that the city of Rostock (of which Warnemünde is a part) and its Danish mayor did an outstanding job so far at containing the pandemic while allowing for relatively much public life. So if there is place to race in Germany in July, it is probably Warnemünde.
As of now, we continue to set up a race, hoping that many of you can come. There is no reason to cancel the event prematurely, even less so as the list of races in Europe already starts getting shorter and shorter again.

Location
- Warnemünde is a seaside resort and a district of the city of Rostock. It has a population of 8,400 and is located on the coast of the Baltic Sea.
- Both Warnemünde and Rostock (website) are in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern with Rostock being the state's biggest city. Located in the area of the former East-German state, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern became one of the Federal Republic of Germany's new states following the German re-unification in 1990.
- The July average temperature in Warnemünde is 21° C.
Sailing
- We will be racing on the Baltic Sea, a marginal sea from the Atlantic Ocean (with very limited water exchange however).
- Due to the open character of the sailing venue and the absence of significant current, Warnemünde is one of the best sailing spots in Germany. In July, the wind blows from westerly directions with an average wind speed of 10 (basic) to 15 (gusts) knots.
- The Worlds will be part of the Warnemünder Woche (i.e. Warnemünde Week), a multi-class sailing and culture event (website, select language in top-left corner).
- In the last few years, major championships of these classes have been sailed during the Warnemünder Woche: (J/22 Worlds 2019, OK Dinghy Worlds 2018, A-Cat Europeans 2018, 505 Europeans 2017...)
- The Contender Europeans 1995 have been hosted in Warnemünde, won by Graham Scott.

MEASUREMENT: We want you to spend as little time as possible having your equipment measured. So we set up this link where you can pick a time slot in advance by indicating your full name: https://tinyurl.com/When-do-I-measure-my-boat Please note: You will sign up to a one hour time slot during which all of your gear (hull, mast, foils, sails) will be measured. Max and Manfred have worked out a system of military precision to make sure that nine competitors' boats can be measured each hour. For this to work, however, we need you to register beforehand and to be present and fully ready for measurement when your slot starts. We are looking to measure the bulk of boats on Sunday. So please only register for measurement on Monday if you know for sure already that you will be a late arriver. (News from 28 June 2021)
- PRE-EUROPEANS: You can register for the Pre-Races event on Manage2Sail now. As it is a test regatta, there is no fee to enter the Pre-Europeans regatta. (News from 11 June 2021)
- REIMBURSEMENT: It has been confirmed that entry fees will be re-imbursement in case of an event cancellation by the authorities. For those registrants who cannot join the event, payments completed will be returned if the reason is a proven Covid infection or a political travel restriction. (News from 24 May 2021)
- EARLY ENTRY FEE: The Notice of Race has been changed earlier this week extending the early entry fee to 17 June. The registration for the event is possible until 27 June now. (News from 22 May 2021)
- TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS: The local government of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern which is the federal state Warnemünde belongs to (you may want to call it Meck-Pomm as every German does...) intends to open for touristic guests from outside the country by 14 June 2021. - EUROPEANS 2021: Warnemünde 2021 will be a European Championship. We have made this decision together with ICA. Covid Situation
- Warnemünder Woche committee intends to make the sailing event possible if the local government allows travelling and tourist accommodation. Entry fees will be reimbursed if authorities cannot grant permission to hold the event.

To make being together ashore as safe as possible, a negative Covid test not older than 48 hrs is required upon arrival followed by quick tests throughout the event. This is for competitors and family and friends. The Luca contact-tracing smartphone app is mandatory as imposed by the local authorities.
Camping
- The camping site is close to the harbour, 400m walking distance. A reservation is not required, there is plenty of room. Camper vans and tents will be at the same place. Tents and cars can placed next to each other.
- Electricity will be available on the camping site, toilets and showers will be close to the camping site.

Camping fees are still to be confirmed by the municipality. They will be approx. 10-15 EUR per night for tents (up to 4 persons) and 15-20 EUR per night for cars with tent (up to 4 persons), campers or cars with caravan.
