Bericht vom Training in Hellerup

 Contender Springtraining in Denmark
This weekend(april 22-23) 17 boats – 15 danish, 1 swedish and 1 finish, where gathered in Hellerup Yachtclub for the annual springtraining. We managed to get the danish olynpic team sailor Peder Rønholdt to train us, which turned out to be a very good idea.

We started out Saturday morning with some start training just to get the back into the groove again. Peder pointed out how important it is to see excactly where the startline is, which we were told, is something even old and very good sailors tend to forget. Then we went on to improve our downwind skills and this, by the way, seemed to be a very good idea for some of us. We also learned how to stear the boat without using the rudder so much. Peder told us that this is something you could win a lot by doing. After this we sailed a bit further out to focus more on the tactics and especially for the new ones to get some instructions on the basic trim. Sunday started out again with small courses and start training. On Sunday afternoon we where all very tired after a good and fun weekend and everyone had learned a great deal.   For the Danish fleet this was a  fantastic event with a fantastic turnout and it was great for both the new and exprienced sailors in the class.  Have fun and good sailing Ulrich Hansen, DEN-48
